Bluetooth Not Working

Section: Doors & AccessCategory: TroubleshootingHow-to1 min read

Summary

Some Grata access features — including Digital Key at certain buildings — may require Bluetooth to work properly. If Bluetooth is turned off on your phone, or if the Grata app does not have Bluetooth permission, your Digital Key or access feature may not connect as expected.
On i Phone and Android, Bluetooth is controlled at two levels: the phone system level and the individual app permission level. Both must be enabled. On Android, Bluetooth access for apps may be listed as Nearby devices rather than Bluetooth.
iPhone fix 1: Turn Bluetooth off and back on▾
  • Open Settings > Bluetooth on your i Phone.
  • Turn Bluetooth off and wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
  • You can also open Control Centre and confirm the Bluetooth icon is enabled.
  • Return to the Grata app and retry the Digital Key or access feature.
  • If Bluetooth was already on and lock access is still not working, continue to fix
iPhone fix 2: Check Grata Bluetooth permission▾
  • Open Settings on your i Phone and scroll down to Grata.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on for the Grata app.
  • If Bluetooth does not appear in the list, reopen the Grata app — it may ask for permission when you return to Digital Key.
  • After allowing permission, retry the Digital Key or access feature near the door.
Android fix 1: Turn Bluetooth off and back on▾
  • Open Settings > Connected Devices, Connections, or Bluetooth depending on your phone model.
  • Turn Bluetooth off and wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
  • You can also swipe down from the top of the screen and confirm the Bluetooth icon is enabled.
  • Return to the Grata app and retry the Digital Key or access feature.
  • If Bluetooth was already on and access is still not working, continue to fix
Android fix 2: Check Nearby devices / Bluetooth permission▾
  • Open Settings > Apps > Grata > Permissions on your Android phone.
  • Look for Nearby devices, Bluetooth, or a related permission group and allow it.
  • Android wording varies by phone model and OS version — Bluetooth access may appear as Nearby devices or Location on some devices.
  • After allowing permission, retry the Digital Key or access feature near the door.
If Bluetooth still does not work▾
  • Try turning Bluetooth off and back on, wait a few seconds, then retry.
  • Fully close and reopen the Grata app.
  • Restart your phone if the above steps do not help.
  • Confirm the Grata app has Bluetooth or Nearby devices permissions enabled on your phone.
  • Confirm you are standing close enough to the lock or reader.
  • Try an approved backup access method if available — keypad PIN, fob, physical key, or front desk.
  • Contact property management if Digital Key is missing from your app, if your building said you should have mobile access but it is not showing, if Bluetooth is on and permissions are correct but the lock still does not respond, or if access works for other residents but not for your account.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1Step 1: Start from the Grata Smart Living home screen

  • Sign in with the account connected to your building or unit.
  • Open Manage Access or the door and PIN area your building shows.

2Step 2: Confirm you are using the correct PIN

  • Check that the PIN belongs to the correct unit, door, or user.
  • Make sure the PIN has not expired or been replaced.

3Step 3: Enter the PIN at the lock or access device

  • Enter the PIN carefully on the keypad.
  • Wait for the lock or access device to respond.

Expected result: The door unlocks successfully.

4Step 4: Confirm the door unlocks

  • Open the door once access is granted.
  • If the PIN does not work, try again carefully and then contact property management or support.

Expected result: You know when to contact property management or support.
