Digital Key

Summary

Digital Key is the mobile access feature in the Grata app that lets you unlock or interact with supported doors and access points in your building using your phone.
What your Digital Key can access depends on your building's configuration and your resident access permissions. Available doors may include your suite entrance, building entrances, shared areas, elevator access, or other access points your property team has enabled. Not every building uses Digital Key the same way, and not every door in a building may be accessible through the app.
Property management controls access permissions and what features are available to each resident. If something is missing or looks wrong, your building team is the right contact.

What the Digital Key is

  • Digital Key is a mobile access credential stored on your device in the Grata app.
  • It lets you unlock or access supported doors without needing a physical key or fob.
  • Digital Key uses Bluetooth, internet, or both depending on the door hardware and building setup.
  • Some actions may require you to be physically near the door; others may work remotely depending on your building.
  • Your Digital Key is tied to your resident account and building access permissions.

Where you can use it

  • Doors and access points shown in your Digital Key depend on what your building has enabled.
  • Common access points include suite or unit doors, main building entrances, shared amenity areas, and elevator access.
  • Not every door or access point in a building is necessarily available through the app.
  • Your app will only show access points assigned to your resident profile.

What affects whether a door appears

  • Whether your building has enabled Digital Key for that door or access point.
  • Your resident permissions for that access point as set by property management.
  • Whether the door hardware supports mobile access.
  • Whether your resident profile, building, or unit information is correct.
  • Your account must be signed in and your access credential must be available on your device.

Digital Key safety and access rules

  • Do not share your Grata account sign-in or allow others to use your phone to unlock doors.
  • Digital Key is a personal resident credential — use approved guest tools for visitors.
  • If your phone is lost or stolen, contact property management to review your access.
  • Report unexpected access or permissions that do not match your unit or role.

If Digital Key is missing or incorrect

  • Digital Key is missing from your app but your building said it should be available.
  • Your suite, elevator, or building access is not showing correctly.
  • Your Digital Key does not unlock the expected access point.
  • Your building, unit, or resident details look incorrect.
  • You recently moved in or changed units and your access has not updated.
